What is an accessory structure?
A detached, subordinate building, the use of which is incidental to the main building or use of the land. These typically include sheds, greenhouses, and decks. An accessory structure does not include habitable living space.
What can I do without getting a building permit?
Your structure needs to be 200 square feet or less, no taller than 10 feet high, and a minimum of 3 feet from the property line. You will still need a Type A Permit.
The Finance Department coordinates the annual financial planning and budget processes, maintains all city accounts and financial records, bills for water and sewer services, manages payroll and purchasing, and collects Aumsville’s building permit fees. It is also responsible for various technical areas of the city including computer systems, telephone and internet facilities for all city departments. If you suspect you have a leak, first turn off all water inside and outside your house. Make sure no one flushes the toilet or uses faucets while you are checking. You can open your meter box and check to see if your meter is running. If your meter is running, you most likely have a leak.
When you open your meter box you will see several parts. Do not touch the City Shut Off valve. Take care not to pinch or pull any wires as that can interfere with the communication of your meter for meter reading. You can turn the customer side valve on and off as you need.
If the leak is minor, call either City Hall or Public Works during normal business hours to report the leak. Public Works cannot work on water leaks on the customer side of the water meter. You will need to call a plumber to deal with leaks on the customer side of the water meter.
If a water main breaks and water is gushing, call City Hall, 503-749-2030, during normal business hours M-F from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Outside of normal business hours call the police non-emergency number and dispatch will let Public Works know about the leak, 503-749-2188.
