City Council Openings

Available Positions

There are five current and upcoming City Council positions to be filled. 

• There is one City Councilor position currently open and accepting applications for appointment. See Current Opening for Appointment below for further information. 
• Beginning June 5th, applications will be accepted for three elected City Councilor positions expiring December 31, 2024, and one elected Mayor position expiring December 31, 2024. 

Current Opening for Appointment

Aumsville City Council is looking to fill a vacant Councilor seat! Applications are being accepted now through June 24, 2024 at 5:00 pm. Council reserves the right to stop accepting applications at any time and may extend the application deadline if necessary.

To apply, see the Qualifications section below to confirm your eligibility, then complete and return the application to Aumsville City Hall.

Once filled, the term will begin upon appointment and will expire December 31, 2026, at which time the Councilor may participate in the elections to remain on the Council. 

Expected Time Commitment: 6-8 hours per month
Meeting Day and Time: 2nd & 4th Mondays of each month at 7pm  

How to Apply
To apply for the appointed position, simply fill out the application and return it to City Hall. 

• Applications must be submitted by June 24, 2024 at 5:00 pm.

Upcoming Elections

Three City Councilor positions and the Mayor position are expiring December 31, 2024 and will be up for election/re-election in the November general elections. If you or someone you know is interested in applying, see the information below for more details. 

Term Length: 

• Three 4-year Councilor term, starting January 1, 2025 and ending December 31, 2028 
  • Applications will be accepted beginning June 5, 2024, and must be submitted no later than August 27, 2024. 
• One 2-year Mayor term starting January 1, 2025 and ending December 31, 2026. 
  • Applications will be accepted beginning June 5, 2024, and must be submitted no later than August 27, 2024. 

Expected Time Commitment: 6-8 hours per month
Meeting Day and Time: 2nd & 4th Mondays of each month at 7pm

• Applications must be submitted between June 5, 2024 and August 22, 2024 at 3:30 pm.
• All applications must include: 
  • Certification of Qualified Elector/Residency
  • Candidate Filing Form (SEL 101)
  • Applicants filing by petition must also include:
    • Candidate Signature Form (SEL 121)
    • Petition Submission Form (SEL 338)

Qualifications for Office

Qualified candidates must:

• Be a registered Oregon voter, AND
• Have resided within Aumsville city limits for a minimum of 12 months immediately preceding the election

City Councilor Responsibilities

• Attend City Council meetings (held 2nd and 4th Mondays of each Month at 7pm)
• Ability to become knowledgeable on a wide variety of issues affecting the City. 
• Willingness to consider differing opinions in arriving at a position that will be in the best interests of the city as a whole. 
• Understanding of how the city operates through its City Charter and how the Council functions. The City Charter is available at: https://www.aumsville.us/city-hall/page/election-information

Helpful Background/Experience

• Ability to make a decision and to accept the will of the majority of your fellow councilors.
• Good communication skills. 
• Prior committee membership in a private or public organization. 
• Ability to accept public criticism. 

The deadline for applications for the appointed position (term ending December 31, 2026) is June 24, 2024, at 5:00 pm.
 

The deadline for applications for the November Election (term January 1, 2025 - December 31, 2028) is August 22, 2024, at 3:30 pm.
