Aumsville Saturday Market History
We have had some amazing vendors take part in our Saturday Market events over the years and without them there would be no event! We want them to know that we appreciate how much time, effort and money that it takes to participate. These entrepreneurs are out there doing what they love to do! That is what America is all about!
When Laurie Kennedy came to City Hall in 2010 with a dream of having an event that would give opportunities to local crafters and entrepreneurs, I knew it was a great idea. At that time I was tied up with the planning of the City’s 100th birthday celebration and wasn’t available to help make her dream a reality. But Laurie was determined…and she persevered, found a location, and in 2011 the journey began. With the help of some friends and her husband, the first Aumsville Craft Market was launched. Sadly, Laurie passed before the second season began, but her dream didn’t. I don’t tell you this story to make you sad; I tell this story because I want everyone to know the history and passion that got this whole thing started. I am so proud to be a part of a very passionate woman’s dream. It is amazing how one person’s tenacity can change so many lives.
In 2012 the Aumsville City Council approved my request to pick up where Laurie left off. We moved the event to Tower Park next to City Hall and hosted between 12 and 17 vendors throughout the season, raising $800 for our PARC Summer Camp. Since then we have brought in more than $4,000 toward Aumsville parks and activities; to purchase equipment and support summer programs!
I guess what I really want to give emphasis to is that when you sign up to be a vendor or shop at these events, you are taking part in something much bigger than a one day sales event. You are part of a dream, sharing your passion, and touching the lives of more than 200 children that attend our summer program and other various events. So even if the traffic is low, if shoppers are in short supply, or the weather is adverse; I want you to know that your time here is valuable and your riches come in many forms.
I have been so blessed the last six years to have met so many wonderful people! I am looking forward to 2017 and all of the wonderful things that it will bring!
